Even though i feel safe, regardless of any installed antivirus, firewall, antispam, anti spyware and what not. Being the professional computer user who knows what to click and run, and what NOT to click and run. I still have Norton installed once in a while every 2nd or 3rd year, just to check for any missed cases of evil files.
This year, i have Norton Internet security 2009 installed, which is a piece of impressive software when it comes to Anti Virus and Firewall software! – It’s completely “silent” and doesnt hog ressources like an evil stepmother who demands attention every saturday and sunday… But it has some flaws even though.
The shortcommings of Norton 09 is that it’s made for imbesils… Rednecks with an IQ of 12 will benefit the most from Norton, because these people click on all buttons without hessitation. It’s perfect in that respect, but fails when the person behind the wheel actually KNOW what’s good for him.
Whenever you have a crack or keygen placed on your computer, Norton detects these kind of executeables as “trojan” – false flagging as its called by us pros…
Whenever Norton detect’s one of these files, we a generously given the choise of “delete” or “delete”… or we may be so polite to ask Norton NOT to ask again about that file, until it does a rutine background scan whener the pc has been idle for 5 minutes !!
My plee, (in my insanity i feel i have a say against this opression) would be to Norton, that they should allow me to leave these files alone. Let ME decide what to happen to them… instead of nagging me until i delete them, or put them on a USB stick of death for later use…
Norton, the bitch that nags you until you yield.
edit
My friend told me that a lot of Cracks/Keygens would contain those trojans on purpose. I hadn't given it much thought that people who compile these small programs would have any benefit from inserting such "vira" into their programs. But of cause it makes sense, when they are paid to do so ! - doh...
Luckely, i usually run keygens and cracks that Norton don't like, in a WinXP sandbox... thereby making me free of all the Norton hazzle and unprotecting myself from getting credit info stolen...
Maybe Norton isn't so bad afterall ...
